I recently had a trani' sensor take a crap on me on my way to work. When it did go bad I had to drive approximently 3 miles in first gear so I could pull it over off the road. During that long trip my engine was running at 4000 rpms. I would let off a little along the way to lay off it a little to keep the stress as low as possible. I let it sit all day and after work went and got it and the trani problem still was there but I had the drive gear this time. So, it was fine except for the fact that I hurd a nock coming from the right side of the engine. It would go away when the rpms got to 2000 and above. ANd sometimes it would be totally non-existant. Today, on my way to work the engine died. I had no lights prior to this. Did I throw a rod? if so what is needed to fix it? I am pretty good with engines just not an expert. Any help will be useful and I plan on taking it apart this weekend. What things do I need to look for to narrow down the possible's reason for my little nightmare.

First, the engine is a 3.8. Second, you're not clear enough. When you say it won't start, I have no way of knowing if it's even cranking over.
