What you got there is the classic symptoms of a blown headgasket. Losing coolant, milky colored oil, lots of white smoke outta the tailpipe, fluctuating temp gauge.
It wont be a cheap fix but, It's still cheaper than buying another car.....
EDIT;BUT.....if you're looking for another car. I have a 1996 Buick Century for sale, I'll let you have it for $1000. It only has 107,000 miles on it.
Bet you a dollar to a donut you have a leaking INTAKE gasket.
It was a pretty common prob on the vortec engines. They used a plastic gasket shell with rubber O ring around the ports. The plastic breaks, melts, crushes over time and you get a coolant leak into the lifter valley.
The fix is pretty simple. Fel pro MS98000 intake gasket set $65 and just change out the intake gaskets.
You can do this yourself. Might take you 2 or 3 days but it aint that hard to do.
Or you can pay a shop $500 to do the repair
need new rings for the blowing white smoke and if the rads leaking put mustard in it it will seal the leak
