External stimuli can only trigger a pre-disposed person to this disorder and most often hereditary. However, it could be a gene from a long long family line, and anyone at this point can develop a disorder because we are all made up of the same chemicals after all..like all disease nobody is different that anyone, we are all the same inside and therefore all open to any illness
If you mean things life life experienc or trauma then no... they do not cause Bipolar of Schizophrenia... it is a chemical imbalance like diabetes, you don't get it from things happening to you.
there is no concrete evidence where you can acquire such mental illnesses. They say it is in the genes. Other says it comes from the environment but one things for sure it is an abnormality on the structure of our brain.

I'm sure it could. But in most cases it is caused by a physical abnormality in the brain.
