A little confusion on something. I've been a beach boys fan for a few months now. I know that Brian Wilson quit touring back in 1964 to focus on producing and songwriting, but he made a return to touring in 1976. I recently found out he was kicked out in 1982, due to drug problems (I think?) however, I watched a video from the 4th of July concert in 1983 in Atlantic City, and Brian played at the concert. Also, he was at Live Aid, and I saw another video from 1986 (they played Wouldn't It Be Nice) and Brian was singing/playing keyboards. Was he not ever kicked out in 1982, or did he just reunite occasionally with the Beach Boys?

I suggest taking this to Brian's message board for people with more knowledge about that period in Brian's life- but he did go in & out a bit until the final break

Though Brian Wilson first quit touring in late-1964, he still appeared on television appearances in 1965 and did the occasional gig in 1966 and 1967. As far as I'm aware, he didn't do any shows in 1968 or 1969, but did do a few in 1970 as well as one or two in 1971 and 1973.
In July 1976 Brian returned as part of the "Brian's Back" campaign which lasted until he was "fired" from the Beach Boys in November 1982. Following his "firing" he lived in isolation on Hawaii undergoing rehab under Landy. This only lasted till May 7, 1983 which is why you saw him at that 4th of July 1983 concert.
Hope this clears everything up!
Both great answers, but just a correction to Jamekae's answer.
Brian was never fired from The Beach Boys. No one can be fired from The Beach Boys. This is because all the Beach Boys including the estates of Dennis and Carl Wilson are part of the group.
Brian was never kicked off a tour or kicked out from performing. Brian was a come and go concert performer.
