bipolar disorder without being depressed?
my dad had bipolar and I think it runs in my moms family as well.. I wouldn't say I'm that depressed which made me think I didn't have the disorder.. but I have massive fluctuation of energy levels from time to time, including am up a lot of the night and tired during the day, and have mania (grandeose thoughts nonstop) .. does this sound like bipolar?

Yes I think it does. A bipolar condition can have symptoms of mania or elevated mood and depression or low mood. Many people with this disorder only experience highs or lows and some of course will experience both.
I have worked in the mental health area as a nurse for many years and the mood and energy fluctuations you describe plus your family history would indicate you are right in thinking you have bipolar disorder.It's great you can recognize this yourself, many can't.
Don't get too concerned but I think you should talk things over with your family doctor, you may need medication or perhaps just being aware of your symptoms and trying to establish regular hours plus and a good diet and exercise may be enough.
