I have been having the sensation of having something in my off and on for several weeks. I wear contacts, and when this sensation flares up it messes with my contact in that eye. It also seems a bit itchy at time and my tears seem thicker than normal in that eye. My wife saw a bump under the skin between the lid and eyeball. The outside of the lid looks totally normal. And I don't have health insurance, so OTC cures would be nice!! Thanks!

First of all, remove your contact lenses now! There is a chance by the symptoms you describe that you could be experiencing GPC, or Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis. This is an eye infection caused by contact lenses, sometimes due to a poor fitting. If you flip your eyelid inside-out and see redness and/or swelling and bumps you can almost be guaranteed that this is the case. Apply cold compresses to the eyes UNTIL YOU SEE YOUR DOCTOR. He/she will prescribe some medication for your eyes. You can expect to go without wearing your contacts for 2-3 weeks, so I hope you have back-up eyeglasses.
Good luck with that, and please see your doctor. Your eyesight is VERY important.
Ask a pharmacist, cuz it could be wither small or serious. Does it itch? If it does, then it sounds like a sty. i believe stys usually appear on the outside of the eyelid, but they're pretty common, especially if u have a cold since they're caused by bacteria. If it's only a sty, then just keep it really clean. But ask a pharmacist 2 c if they know/can recommend anything.
its a normal thing called a sty. im not suree how to spell it thoughh. you get them from touching your eyes to much and getting bacteria in their. they puff up and get swollen. it'll go away in about a week. if its really bothering you go to the eye doctor to get medicine for it.
Go to the eye doctor stankbutt!!
