I am pregnant with my 5th baby and will be finding out the gender next week. I have, so far, had 4 girls and 0 boys. I know that typically it is accepted that the male sex partner determines the gender of the fetus but I have also heard that vaginal pH can affect the ability of certain sperm to survive the "big swim". In my case, female or Y chromosome sperm seem to benefit.
I ask because my maternal grandmother had 4 girls, 0 boys. Those girls together produced 8 girls and 2 boys. And our thrid generation (mine) have produced 12 girls and 2 boys. This is WAY off the typical gender distribution and equals a roughly 86/14 percent split in favor of female compared to the 49/51 split in the general population in favor of male.
Anyone think there's a chance I could have a boy? Is anyone aware of this type of gender-bias being caused by anything other than luck?
Thanks!

Essentially, there are two different types of male sperm. There are the sperm that produce boys, and then there are, obviously, the sperm that will produce girls. The sperm that produce boys tend to swim faster than the sperm that produce girls, and they get to the egg faster. However, these sperm have a shorter lifespan than the sperm that produce girls. The sperm that produce girls swim slower, but they will often last several days longer than the sperm that produce boys.
To try to determine your babies gender, you can time the day of conception. If you are trying to get pregnant with a girl, you should have sex a few days prior to ovulation. Thus, the sperm that would produce a boy will die off before you ovulate, and will not have a chance to fertilize your egg. This will also give those sperm that would produce a girl the opportunity to get to your egg.
If you are trying for a boy, your day of conception needs to be different. To try to have a boy, you will want to have sex during the time that you are ovulating. Some people have even suggested that you put the day of conception off until the very end of ovulation, although this, obviously, creates a higher risk of not becoming pregnant at all.
Ultimately, the day of conception will not guarantee a babies gender, but it may be able to help!
No. The male determines the gender and it has nothing to do with family history. In most cases the male sperm just die off faster than the female so they never make it to the egg, which is why they say when you want a boy try deep penetration that way the male sperm (who swim faster) have a head start to get to the egg before they die off.
I believe gender runs in the family. My dad was raised with 6(7kids including him) siblings 6 boys 1 girl. My mom was raised with 5 siblings (6 kids including her) 5 girls 1 boy. Now between my mom and dad there were 6 of us 5 girls 1 boy! Now 3 of us girls have 2 kids each all boys. Our cousins on our mothers side which by the way are all girls and 2 boys. All of them have boys including the guys. The youngest girl in our family is my sister who is 14. So with that being said I don't think we'll ever get a little girl anywhere in our family!
Yes, I have heard of this before. It is the vaginal pH theory that I have heard that explains this. I have also heard that themore children you have of the same sex,
Odds of Having a Boy
The odds of having a boy seem to increase after having girls, except after 2 girls, when a 3rd girl is more likely;
Previous Children % Boy Births
None 51% Boys
1 Girl 54.5% Boys
2 Girls 46.0% Boys
3 Girls 52.7% Boys
PH can kill off boy or girl sperm, they say higher ph is more likly a boy, lower ph a girl, also when the women ovulates can help, sex early in ovulation, the egg isnt there for the faster, male sperm, but is there for the slower girl sperm,
try gender prediction website they have a whole forum for "natrul" gender selection.

My cousin runs a family of 12 girls and 0 boys, they're mostly twins. I was amazed to see them like that. The first four daughter married and also had twins one of them have twin boys though, the rest are girls. It doesn't really matter if you have a boy or girl, at least it's your baby, be proud of yourself to have a child in this lifetime.
