I got a sony xplod stereo for christmas, it's 54 x 4 watts (208 watts total power) so I'm wondering if I would want to buy a front speaker that is a bit more than 54 watts, ie, a 60 watt speaker sony sells watts, which is rated at 300 Watts max. or does it not work like that, and I would need to buy a 45 watt speaker with say 300 watt peak to stay within 54 watts?

54 watts per channel. you can get the bigger wattage speakers if you want, but your car speakers should be fine unless you intend th crank up the volume, then you want larger speakers. but then if you get speakers way to big and you turn up the volume they will not sound good they will have some distortion. but if your one of those that want the boom box sound then your not into sound quality but distortion.
