Methodist churches are Protestant. That means that they are part of the group of churches that broke off from Catholicism during the Protestant Reformation. Catholic services are more ritualistic than Methodist ones. Catholics have seven sacraments, while most Protestant churches have two (Baptism and Communion). The Methodists do not recognize the authority of the Roman Catholic Pope. They generally do not engage in the veneration of Mary and the saints. Some Methodist congregations ordain female priests, while Catholic churches do not have female clergy. Catholics feel that the real presence of Christ is in the Eucharist, while the majority of Protestants feel that Communion is merely symbolic.
The Catholic church is the first church established by Jesus himself which has been passed down from st.peter through apostolic succession from pope to pope. Only men may become priests and may not marry. Catholic means universal so it's the church created for everyone. At communion the bread and wine is consecrate into the body and blood of Jesus. Jesus said to do this in memory of him and continue to do this because we must receive him in order to be saved. Has closed communion (basically if you don't believe that it actually is the blood and body of christ you should receive it)
Even though there are these differences both are Christians and followers of Christ. they have more in common than they don't. The most important thing is that both are trying to live their lives for Christ.
Methodists ordain both men and women and they may be married. There is also apostolic secession but it is not recognised by the catholic church. They believe communion is a symbol rather than the actual body and blood of christ. They have open communion. (anyone can have it)
Baptism........( Joining into the Christian community)
communion.. ( Eucharist).the real presence The Bread
Conformation (Confirming yourself to God)
reconsiliation ( confession)
Marriage.......(Between man & a Woman)
Holy Orders ....(Priesthood)..Men only
Anointing of the Sick...(Last rights)
The catholic Church Holds these 7 sacrements dear to Her ...We are the only Church to have all the Sacrements...They are not man mad ..but indeed found in the Bible & Given By Jesus ...so they are not considered symbols ..but what was taught to us by the Apostles 2008 years ago....
Methodist do not have All these Sacrements ..and do not believe that the bread & wine do indeed become the Body and Blood of christ...even though Jesus said it Does....they also in some methodist Churches (there are different forms of methodist) Some allow women to be Priest...wich is Not Biblical....we Catholic's are not sexist .it's just not in the Bible...And we Can not change Jesus's Doctrin & church to fit the times.....
Two different religions that use some of the same terminology.
Catholics believe the bread and wine used during communion literally become the literal body and blood of Jesus. They call him down from heaven and sacrifice him literally on the alter in the mass. Methodists believe the bread and wine are symbols of his body and blood, like the Bible teaches.
The Catholics believe the Methodists are wrong and vice versa.
Catholics have a Pope who is Jesus on earth. Methodists have a headquarters in New York City or somewhere that sends them Sunday School material every quarter. Quite different.
The Catholic church is the one Church founded by Jesus Christ for all mankind. As such it teaches the fullness of truth, just as Jesus said it would. Methodism is just one of the countless conflicting denominations of Protestantism, each of which teaches a mix of genuine truth received from the Catholic Church, and new traditions introduced by their many human founders.
