I don't have a lot to work with this year (like 25 dollars), but I want to get my family some nice things. I have two sisters (one in college and the other in middle school) and my two parents (who are divorced but see each other often and don't hate each other).
Is there anything cheap I can buy that they might like?

If you are spitting $25.00 between everyone, nothing.
My suggestion for maybe your sisters would be a trip to Michael's. They have some really cute (unfinished jewelry/trinket boxes) very cheap. Pick up a few colors of acrylic paint and in the Martha Stewart section grab some decoupage glue. Lightly sand the box and dust it off. Then the fun part begins. Give it 1 or 2 coats of the acrylic paint. Go light with the layers and let them dry in between coats. Then use the decoupage glue to add a picture of the two of you to the top of the box. You could cut it into the shape of a heart or any creative thing you can come up with. Let it dry. Add embellishments or other artwork to the box. You could also add a message at the bottom. Then give the whole thing a final coat of decoupage to seal it. You could make two separate boxes for about $10. I promise you it will mean more to them then any store bought gift you can buy.
Try this for everyone.
Spiced tea - you put all the ingredients in a jar (find cheap jars at Big Lots or Dollar General). The cut little tags and tie them around the jar with the instructions on how to make a mug of spiced tea.
Ingredients:
2 Cups Tang
1/2 Cup Instant tea
2 pkg lemon Kool Aid
2 Cups Sugar
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Use 3 teaspoons per cup of boiling water.
I like to top off the container with red hots to add the Christmas flare!
Anything home baked or home made as in knit or crocheted or sewn is nice. For your sisters if they have i-pods, try i-tunes gift certificates. Or gift certificates to the nail salon. That would actually be a nice gift for all the ladies...manicures are about $10.00 and that is a thoughtful gift...especially if they decide to use it like a ladies day out and all go together. As for your Dad, think about what he likes. If likes coffee, Dunkin Donut gift certificates work and in the morning on the way to work, he will certainly appreciate those certificates. Merry Christmas.
For your sister on college a candle. Your sister in middle school might like a small makeup kit. Your father a soap on a rope. Your mother a recipe keeper or something for the kitchen.
What I am working on is blankets.Someone always has to stay warm right? Just go to a fabric store, and get two yards of fleece fabric.... All you do is cut slits around the edges (about one inc long and half an inch or smaller around, and tie them into knots. It's fun, and only cost about 6 bucks per blanket depending what kind and the prices are.... Hope it helps!! GL
How about buying some ingredients then making them some little cakes or sweet treats. You could present them in a little box all wrapped up with ribbons and stuff.
Homemade presents are great and show that you've put a lot of thought behind them.
College Sister: Food to take to college, or shampoo or stuff she'll need if she's not living at home...does she like candles? Gift certificate for cappucino? burger king? mcd's?
Middle School...cool funky stuff for school...check dollar stores...stuff for locker, decorating notebooks, funky pens, keychains, or a bunch of candy/snacks (bags, big boxes) from dollar store
Give you parents coupons for help around the house!!!!!! (then you can spend more on your sisters....lol...)...not sure what your house is like, but i always like picture frames...get some from dollar store or even blank frames and crafty glittery stuff from dollar store and decorate and personalize the, you can do that to picture frames, candles, ornaments...
Or maybe get each of them a special ornament to hang on the tree each year? start a new tradition? get blank ones and glitter their names on it. maybe put one ornament, with candy, candle or frame from dollar store, coupon and something funny all together for each of them.
gotta love the dollar store...and each dollar store has different stuff...
sorry my answer is so lame! having the same problem!!! These aren't really "nice" i guess...as a parent..i'd sure appreciate the coupons and a little chocolate though!
P.S. I posted this before seeing Seashell's idea (probably writing at the same time)...I like her idea I think it's great...you should do that!!!! It's pretty, personal, and practical! Awesome!
Wow,now thats a really tight budget!I suggest u prepare something special for the whole family, rather than buy them individual gifts coz i dnt know how far 25 dollars can go...u can make dinner or something nice.Or you could go for home-made gifts, get ur creative juices pumping!Goodluck...
$5 giftcard 2 the salvation military save!the place all ur holiday paying for is made much less complicated, commencing with those clothing that that guy with the stinky armpits tried on!=)....LOL"the place ur trash will become yet another persons treasure, guranteed!!!"(u can boot up the fee of that giftcard if ya prefer!) nicely wat much less costly present that became the main suitable became probable that common barbie from vast plenty...even thou i dont prefer a doll...atypical ppl in this worldwide.i think of it became in basic terms a shaggy dog tale?
anything home made like cappuchino mix, cookies, candy, cake works real good when on a tight budget for Christmas.
