I fostered a mama cat and her two male kittens for 3 months. I just took the two kittens back to the shelter to get neutered 3 days ago. I went to the shelter today after work to check on them and was met with horrific news: an in-tact male tomcat below their kennel got loose overnight, got into my kittens' cage, and killed the littlest kitten! I am absolutely devastated. The vet-tech that found poor Pee-Wee this morning said he had been bitten in the neck. I cannot stop crying and keep wondering if he suffered horribly. I'm thinking at worst he went unconscious and died within 5 minutes. I'm hoping he died instantly...

Unfortunately, as you learned the hard way, tom cats will sometimes kill kittens. It has to do with killing another male cat's progeny so the mother goes into heat again so they can mate with the other cat. As for your kitten, it was over quickly and he didn't suffer. Biting animals in the neck that way is one of the quickest ways to kill them. I know you feel horrible but try not to feel angry at the cat that did it. He was just following his instincts and didn't do it for pleasure. I'm really sorry for your loss.
:( thats really sad it was probably quite painful but it was over quite quickly, 10 mins at the very very most. im sorry for your loss, its always really devastating when a kitten dies ;(
