I want to get a hamster, but I really don't want the cage to smell. I already have a rabbit and I clean his cage every other day so I was wondering if I did the same for the hamster would the cage smell?
With hamsters you have to keep the cage really clean Also hamsters have a smell that naturally emanates from their pores. You can smell it on your hands and bathing does not take it away. They in return are active, fun to watch, and if you keep them social they will be easy to handle. Keep a very secure cage with a good locking door as they are great escape artists! Then when you find them they aren't always as friendly as they were! Enjoy your new hamsters!
Every animal poops and pees. A hamster's cage will smell just as much as any other cage. Try using Febreze or a plug in spray to mask the smell. Hope this helped. :)
Yes they do. I guess you could try to prevent it from smelling bad by cleaning it everyday.
But my friend had a hamster and put him in a separate room with the door closed because the hamster made the whole room smell bad. I really want one too, but my parents told me i can't for that exact reason.

If you do what you said you do, no.

How often do you plan on cleaning it?
Plenty of factors play in, though the typical hamster cage needs to be
cleaned, once a week, earlier if it starts to stink.
A cage can definitely smell if not regularly cleaned.

It shouldn't do as long as you clean it regularly :)
if you don't clean it yes.
