The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Why? Because it's the most amazing series in the whole world. It's dark, terrifying, deep, and beautiful. There's no other series that really compares to how brilliant these books are. Stephen King is a true master, and this is his masterpiece. Most of the other answers will probably be Harry Potter or Twilight, but The Dark Tower makes those series look like those cheap cardboard books you find at the doctor's office. Not even Harry Potter (a series I love and respect as much as the next guy) can compare to how brilliantly dark, imaginative, and entertaining these books are. Seriously, you have to read them or else you will never know just how incredible a fantasy series can be.
The Cronicles Of Narnia via Clive Staples Lewis a million. The Magician's Nephew 2. The Lion, The Witch, and The dresser 3. the horse and His Boy 4. Prince Caspian 5. The Voyage of the 1st gentle Treader 6. The Silver Chair 7. The final conflict
The Stephanie Plum series--> One for the money, Two for the dough, Three to get deadly and so on... Janet Evanovich is the author. I love them because they are witty and hilarious. touch of romance in there too. :)
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Why? It's like a literary org... oh, wait, I can't say that here. Well, because it's just frickin' amazing, okay? :D
Harry Potter. You never ask for "why" in case of Harry Potter. Its just super awsomely magical. Hell yeah thats my life. Its just a very great world on its own.

It's a tie between Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Queen's Thief (this one's too good to be so unknown)
