It will be a puppy and I do have the requirements for them. I go running to when the puppies bones have matured I'll take him (Plan on getting a male) running. I will neuter. I need it to get along with other dogs as I have a English Bulldog, American Bulldog, and a Chihuahua. I also have two cats one outside and the other one is in. The English Bulldog is dominate and really strong but he accepts other animals if I approve of them. The American is sweet and takes a lot of crap but once she gets mad she can fight as our English bully likes to push her buttons. The Chihuahua thinks he is big so will bark and try to bite but he won't if it's big like my English Bulldog. The outside cat is kinda fearless he runs when the dogs come running to him cause he doesn't like to play with them but he will fight if he has to cause a coon hound came to out yard and he chased it off. He also goes in the garage when the dogs are out so he won't get slobbered on. The indoor cat is skittish she will run but she has attacked and hurt the chihuahua when she has enough she will attack but that is rare. Most of the time if the Chihuahua chases her she runs and hides but sometimes she flips him over and tries to bite his neck but I yell at her and she then runs off. Other than that she will lay with the dogs and sometimes mess with their things like toys so we will make sure the puppy won't have aggression over stuff like that. My current dogs will just pull it away from her gently.
Update:My English bulldog is dominate over the other animals he knows I'm the leader. They all get along.

I have actually had both types,
I recommend German shepherd because they are very active, love running and playing. German shepherd tend to not like cats or other small dogs while Australian shepherd do
You're absolutely right to be considering everything!
It's the only way to make a good, informed decision.
I've had both a Border Collie (not an aussie, but close) and a German Shepherd. Both were extremely sensitive animals, quick learners, but high on the anxiety scale.
Prepare yourself. Forget what you think you know about dogs. You're about to be thrown into a whole different world.
Both breeds have an uncanny level of intelligence -- underestimating this fact will make you kick yourself later! Both require a firm owner and a solid routine. (Or the collie will start amusing herself by opening your fridge and hiding your shoes.)
On the one hand you've got a tightly packed can of worms (the collie), and on the other there is the quietly calculating & extremely possessive German Shepherd.
Use your intuition. You'll make the right choice.
What about an English shepherd?
No matter which breed you go with, the dogs personality is going to he most important thing. If you talk to the breeder about what you need, they can give you a puppy that will best match you.
it seems that there is lack of leadership in house. also u mentioned that english bulldog is dominant so it means he has taken the pack leader role so before entering any other dog in picture make sure u are be able to control ur other dogs. And dnt make a choice by the dogs appearance but the main thing u shud do is see that his energy is less than urs. i mean choose a medium level energy dog and see that u follow the theory of exercise-discipline-affection, and use pack instincts...for eg.by taking leadership role, walking the pack together but they shud be behind or at ur side nd nt in ur front, by feeding them together......dnt forget that a proper walk gives u access to u and ur dogs properly....good luck ..hope i ve been a help...nd let me know

It sounds to me like you need to train your other animals before you get a puppy.
