I'm asking this question on the American football forum too. Is anyone aware of reliable data on the Superbowl television numbers for the 2008 Superbowl, as compared to the Rugby World Cup final in November 2007. I'm curious.
The only figures I can find for the RWC are for the *entire* tournament, which doesn't help. But I wouldn't be surprised if the number for the RWC Final exceeds the Super Bowl number, if only because most of the world watches the RWC.
Im not sure about the television ratings or anything but im guessing it the higher rating would be the world cup final. I mean comon its a WORLD CUP FINAL!! Also there was much on the line as england went in as unlikley defending champions hoping to retain the cup. Once they won a grueling grudge match with Australia the whole of the world new that england meant buisness. Im not sure about the superbowl but its not as big as a rugby world cup final, the 3rd biggest sporting event in the world behind the olypics and the football world cup.

In the US it would outrate the RWC but everywhere else, no.
