I've been looking for a Wrangler for awhile now, and one just came up on craigslist, a 1994 with a solid frame, minimal rust, but 246,XXX miles on the engine. For 1800, it sounds like a good deal, but would it be worth it?
Update:the engine runs, and is mechanically sound right now. doesnt burn oil or leak anything. U-joints, driveshaft, and differentials are all in working condition.

I've seen a few 4.0 wranglers make it over 300,000(but not a whole lot)...I've only seen 1 that made it over 400,000 and it had to have a major rebuild to make it.
300,000 is ALOT of miles on ANY engine. To buy a car with 250,000 miles you are probably looking at some major work soon, if it hasn't already been done. Even on these reliable engines things are going to start wearing out.
If you are buying this as a "toy" to work on every weekend and just play with it might be a good idea but if this is going to be your daily driver it's probably a bad idea. I'd buy it understanding your going to need to give it lots of attention and probably be investing a few thousand dollars on maintenance soon.
246xxx on any engine is a helluva lot of miles. A 4.0 straight six, very, very well maintained could still be running at that point, in fact, it's not uncommon, especially in XJs, however, you are going to experience a lot more issues with the engine itself just as you would on any vehicle with that many miles. You're going to have to do a lot of maintenance, but at that price, if you're okay with something with so many miles on it, it's not a bad value. Kelly Blue Book for a completely unmodded, base model Wrangler of that year with that many miles is about $2400.
I don't knoew if the engine is going to be your issue. I'm an import guy but even I know that the 4.0L I-6 in those trucks are darn near bulletproof. It's the drivetrain things you need to be concerned with. Broken U-joints, driveshafts axles, differentials, etc. need to be thoroughly checked before you decide to buy.
Mine has 195000 and doesn't miss a beat. Garage kept and serviced every 15000 kms, I expect to at least double that milage
My 1991 Cherokee has 330,000 miles on it. It still runs great.

If it's as good as you say, I'd give $1800 for it, definitely not overpriced.
