My husband's laptop's motherboard died over a year ago which was a little over a year after he purchased it brand new. He has not replaced the motherboard because Best buy was going to charge $768 to fix the faulty part from HP. I have read about many many complaints for this particular model laptop from online forums and have discovered that the models with AMD processors have been recalled but not the models with Intel processors which is the one he has, therefore they will not replace the part for free.
I am currently looking for the motherboard part number and I do not know how to find the correct number. Can someone give me some information on how to find it or what the part number is if you already know? Also, if you have any other information that would be helpful, thank you.

Underneath the memory, there is usually a sticker with the HP part number of the motherboard.
You'll need to open the memory cover on the bottom of the laptop, and then unclip the memory from the memory slots to take a look at it. The white sticker should say Replace with HP spare part number: ...... and the number for your motherboard will end in 001.
