So let's say you cut yourself accidentally or a shark bites you or a microorganism has infected you.
Why do we need to experience extreme pain? It is totally unnecessary.
1. How about the part that is damaged signals your brain once per minute with a small signal?
2. How about your finger emits light (chemoluminescence)?
3. How about a heads up display in my brain kind of like in Robocop and the Terminator? I would see a text that says, WARNING, damage to right arm, index finger. Starting repairs. Will take 2 weeks. Don't get it infected!

How about 'DANGER - DO NOT TOUCH' signs; or could god, with his infinite intellect, not use clipart?
Pain IS the signal from the damaged part to your brain. And we're not robots.
Sadly suffering is the only thing that gets our attention and forces us to take notice.
It witnesses to us that all is not right.
Together with our moral awareness it warns of the Judgement to come and the state of everlasting suffering.
Sadly it is perhaps the only thing that will turn us to God.
That is how very, very sinful we all are.
Our bodies need something to say "don't touch it"
*touch*
"I SAID DON'T! BLAARRRGH"
To make sure you don't do it again.
Even if you had a HUD or chemoluminescence warning or something, it still means you might do it again. Pain deters your body from trying to harm itself again.
pain is a usefull if uncomfortable indicator of just how much damage we have sustained. would yo like to lose a limb and not notice while you bleed to death?
Ignorance is daring yours is superb.
