As you know, Virginia Beach has a humid subtropical climate. It has the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Chesapeake Bay on the north. It can be hot and humid in summer days, while Virginia Beach has very mild winter days.
You don’t have to worry about the temperature in September. According to statistics, the average temperature in September ranges from 80°F to 65°F. With decent swimming weather, the temperature will be 80°F. It’s very nice for your family to get in the pool and ocean. Of course, the temperature can rise to 90°F or down to 70°F. That doesn’t matter anyway.
When it comes to rainfall in September, it has an average precipitation of 4mm. Compared with spring and summer, it has less rain falls in early autumn.
You can check the weather before you go.

Not at all. I live in Virginia, and I've been there in the early fall. Temperatures are in the mid-90s now. The odds are that the temperatures will be in the 80s with decent swimming weather. That said, you also can see temps go into the 90s or down into the 70s. But the odds are in your favor.
you are able to swim there every time, it particularly is basically that the life guards are not on the coastline till the 1st rate start up of the season, which isn't till memorial day. So examine the water temps and be careful in case you settle directly to bypass out.
