Its really hard being a black geek in Australia.
1. I cant connect with a good bunch of 'mainstream' Australian since i'm a geek
2. People sometimes confuse me for being aboriginal since i'm black and i have no fashion sense whatsoever and mainstream society is always apprehensive of me
3.Few friends i can relate to
4. Slight language barrier since i'm foreign and have a bit of an accent
5. Getting 'othered' since i'm so radically different from what people expect.
5. Will never get the girls
Does anybody else have similar issues?

im a geek in australia who (for some reason) everybody thinks is mexican. so i can pretty much relate to 1 and 5 but you can try, oh i don't know, TRYING to talk to people?i did and it helped ALOT as soon as i stopped acting nerdtacular around normal people. and TRUST me, your black, thats a deal breaker for girls.
You are shy and/or lacking in self-confidence.
1. It's very common, there are LOADS of others like you.
2. You can learn to be more sociable. It's a bit of hard work but it gets easier. You have to push yourself a little to say hello to people. Councillors can give very helpful training in this if you are interested. I was VERY shy but kept pushing myself and now it comes quite naturally to talk to people, even strangers.
3. If you have no fashion sense this is a good way to break the ice. Talk to someone you know who does have fashion sense and ask them for some help in this area, they would probably love to help you.
4. Language, skin colour etc has nothing to do with it, it's just self-confidence.
5. Join some social groups or clubs that you have some at least some interest in to practice talking to people you don't know, eg do you play chess - you could join a chess club. It doesn't matter if the people are quite different to you (eg much older), it's all for the practice. If you happen to make a friend in the process then that's great.
6. People are nowhere near as critical of other people as you think, they are too busy worrying about whether they look stupid themselves.
7. It gets better as you get older.
Best wishes
Better Australia TODAY than, way back in the day, when you would have been a real novelty? The fact you are "confused " for an aboriginal says so much STILL about that nation today. Sad?
Q: "I'm black and a geek in AUSTRALIA?"
A: Interesting. Which of your parents is Greek?
