I'm a older adult looking to go back to college (25) to finish my undergrad. I work at a job in sale where my monthly quota is more than my yearly salary and I don't get commission! fed up I decided going back to school and finishing my degree will get me a better job, where I won't literally struggle every month, there's time I dont even have gas money to get to my job. now my manager says I can't go to school working in his department and he would have to send me to a lower paying position because my request to work in the morning doesn't suit his needs of the business! is this fair? what should I do. Hold of college more or go over my managers head and see what other options I have. If it helps my manager has just hired someone who is in school and he gets the hours he told me he couldn't give me!

Looks like there's favoritism. I suggest you either find a new employment which will give you flexible hours or go to a higher manager about your concern.
Do you really think that it would be fair for the company to have to keep you in your current job if you couldn't be there when they need you? NO they don't have to adjust your schedule to work around your classes.
Going over your manager's head will get you nothing except maybe fired.
that's ridiculous. i would be so fed up if i was in your position! you need to find a better job let the new job know in the interview you will be taking classes next semester and make sure they are able to accommodate your schedule. although i do not think it is illegal for them to do that, it is very wrong!!!
The job is not under obligation to make any accommodation for your educational desires b
You are just a worker.
Put off the college idea until you can afford the expence.
