The amp pushes out 500 watts RMS @ 2ohms and 300 watts @ 4ohms. The sub is an alpine 12 inch dual voice coil 4ohm sub that pushes out 600 watt rms. would this work out? I have 4 guage wires and wanted to know how I would wire things to get the full power out of the amp.

Speakers HANDLE Wattage, not "Push" wattage. The amplifier pushes the wattage to the speaker.
You have a good match for amp/sub. Wire the sub coils in parallel as per 'Option 1' in the diagram at this link... http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configura...
Alpine variety-R SPR-17S - motor vehicle speaker equipment is a great set of aspects. be sure you skill them to the pronounced wattage. regrettably, maximum amps which could push a minimum of one hundred ten watts at 4 ohm's are extra high priced than those audio equipment. i'm working a spark off of those in undemanding terms using 55 watts rms and that they sound great. clean and precise.
