I got out of work yesterday night and drove home and something about my car felt a little off but when I got home I couldn't tell anything was wrong (being 10pm at night didnt help me see any better). But when I woke up today and checked it out I found a huge dent on my drivers side door. My question is if I tell my insurance about it (obviously hit n run) will my rate skyrocket even though it was a hit and run?? This is my first occurrence with any kind of an accident.
Thanking you for any help- Alex

get an estimate at a body shop or two.all depends on your deductible.if damage is less than that just pay it.depending on who you are insured with if your rates will go up.
Here's how it works...your insurance will not go up if your vehicle was involved in a collision and you were not present or in the vehicle at the time.
I would report it to the police that way if you do ever find out who did it you could have them charged for hit and run as well as your insurance will only go after someone when a claim is filled. After you file said claim, call your insurance and tell what happened, they'll likely ask you if you want to go through your insurance to repair the damage just say no thanks that you can live with it and that it is minor...this way the police know and your insurance know...but you won't be punished.
If you decide to fix it yourself, do pay for it out of pocket. Don't go through insurance cause you'll pay for it 3 times over.
P.S. a door and a paint job will likely cost you closer to $1,000 if not more...parts from a wrecking yard are typically 1/2 of the price of new parts from the manufacturer. Just get a door skin and have it painted...will cost you more in teh ball park of $600.
I believe it will. They file things like this under "comprehensive" which is bad because there is no other insurance company to pay off the claim for an accident caused by another party. I had a tree fall on my car and it caused my rates to jump when I got it repaired under comprehensive.
I would just try to find a local junkyard that has a dent free door, slap it on there yourself, and get a cheap paint job from maaco or the like. Should end up costing you around 300-400 bucks altogether (as long as you install the door yourself. In the end you'll spend more going through the insurance company (deductible + rate increase)
$4000 is basically too lots for that, they might purchase yet another automobile of the comparable year and variety tell em to flow to a distinctive save oh right here is an perfect, replace the whole door, it is going to cost much less then 500 and it is poped out and caught for much less then that tell em you won't be able to arise with $4000 and you do prefer to artwork it out tell em to take it to greater shops, tell em to interchange the door, not restoration it might fee much less then $500, and you weren't born yestday in the event that they choose something over $1000, tell em to call coverage, yet on condition that your coverage will disguise it
dont tell the insureance fix it yourself!!!!!
huh?
