I have a 56 plate 'new-model' Mercedes Sprinter and have had a couple of instances where the power fails and it goes into 'limp mode'. I've taken it into my local garage (which is used to servicing Merc Sprinters), where they changed the accenuator valve. This cured the problem for 2 days, when the power cut out again. Then changed the ECU Unit (i think) but it still is not back to full power.
One noticeable thing is that it makes a wheezing hoover-like sound when accelerating, but the garage can't tell me what it is. Are there any experienced Merc mechanics familiar with this sound who can tell me what it is, and what I should do to get it back to full power?

You have an air leak somewhere on the induction trunking, between the turbo and the manifold.
Sometimes the plenum chamber (just before the inlet manifold) gets clogged up with **** that gets in via the EGR valve.
The cure is to take off all the inlet tract and the valve, clean out the parts and re assemble making sure all joints are sound.
Hi
It sounds very much like you either have an intake air leak which is bypassing the MAF sensor and allowing unmetered air into the cylinders, or the turbo is at fault.
Spray some WD40 around the intake and listen for a change in engine note, which would indicate a leak in the area you just sprayed.

No Engine light on ? Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak check around for unplugged or cracked hose or any parts that don't look pluged in or sitting flat. I have pipointed bad intake gaskets by spraying WD-40 around a running engine listening for a change in noise.
in the adventure that your Petrol (ie gas) is a mix of ethanol and petrol then you definately could attempt to get organic petrol as quickly as each couple of months. while you're utilising gasoline (ie LP gasoline) and you have the alternative swap then "fill 'er up" with petrol to get the cobwebs out of the device. yet extra suitable to study with the broking in the previous you attempt any wonky concepts published via individuals who would no longer incredibly understand what they're speaking approximately.
