Minecraft laucher not updating?
Well, I opened Minecraft it said on the top of the screen "Minecraft launcher 1.2.2 I tried everything reinstall change java etc. etc. I tried updating the laucher too it just kept opening the game. Again and again. If it makes the difference I have a Windows 8 PC.

Nononono, when it says 'Minecraft Launcher 1.2.2', that's the version of the launcher itself, not the game. Due to the recent launcher upgrade, the launcher now has versions. You will still load Minecraft 1.6.2 or whichever version you desire in the profile option.
