Hi,
I've been playing golf for a year and a half now, I'm not too bad. My first set was steel shaft, and I bought myself a set of graphite clubs. Now since then I have been moving back and forth between the two because I can't decide, I hit graphite clubs at least 15 yards longer but steel is a lot more accurate. I'm thinking about mixing and having 3-7 iron in graphite and 7-sw in steel, is this a good idea ? I'm a fairly big fella with a average to fast swing speed
P.S I'm definetly using graphite on driver and woods
Thanks

Go for it. My 3, 4, 5 iron are graphite and the rest of my irons are steel. The thing for me was being able to swing the longer irons faster to get the proper trajectory. I found I carried my 5 iron about the same distance as my 6 iron, but my 5 would not bite it would just roll farther. Now I get a better launch and the carry I was looking for. The trick is to find the clubs that fill the yardage gaps all the way down to your lob wedge. Good luck.
well it may be a good idea to use either just graphite or just steel shaft because if you use just one type you are able to get use to using them and get better with them and being able to get more comfortable with that type and ofcourse once your comfortable with one set then go to another then get comfortable with them also and use to how you should swing etc to get perfect shots one you have done this then you can mix but even then you may become confused while using two different types while playing.
so i suggest using just one
graphite or steel
in my oppinion graphite is a better choice :)
hope i helped.
If you're comfortable with it, go nuts. My irons are steel shaft, but my wedges are graphites. That configuration works for me, but it may not work well for others.
If it works for you then do, there is no more of a difference than replacing long irons with hybrids plus its not unusual for golfers to mix sets to create one they enjoy hitting.
Whatever trips your trigger...lol!
