At first the universe was ruled by the Titans. Then the king was "Cronus" or "Saturn" in Roman myth. There was a prophecy that his children will dethrone him which made him eat all his children: Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Hestia and Demeter. But his wife Rhea refuse to give up the last son, Zeus. Instead she gave Cronus a stone wrapped in cloth which Cronus thought to be the child and swallowed. Zeus grew up and waged war against his father and freed his siblings from Cronus' stomach. Gross, I know.
Well, Zeus then become the most powerful god. He and his other two brother divides the world in three sections and each took one part to rule. Zeus took the Sky, Poseidon the Sea and Hades the underworld.
Now there are three sisters who control everyone's fate. They are the "Fates". It is said Zeus fears no one but the Fates. In another account I found that Zeus fears Nyx. Nyx is the night, she is more primitive than the Titans, even Gaea and Uranus. She is one of the first creatures to be born, one of the first goddess. Zeus is said to fear her but I do not know the reason.
Zeus is King of the gods and all gods and goddesses obey his word. Even wise Athena and his queen Hera, do what he says when he gives a direct order. But there is instance where Zeus is powerless, where Zeus has no choice but to obey. Who commands the most powerful of the gods? The Fates.
The Fates decide every human destiny. They choose long a man lives, and they choose the twists and turns in a person's life. The Fates might even control the destiny of the gods, all though that isn't 100% clear. The gods cannot change what Fate has in store for a human. Even Zeus cannot alter the decisions of the Fates.
There are three Fates and they are usually seen as women with tools for making and cutting yarn or thread. Sometimes they are ugly and old, possibly lame, sometimes blind or with only one eye.
Chronos, Zeus, Hades and Ares were the most powerful gods. Hera (Zeus' wife and Hades' sister), Aphrodite and Artimis were the he most powerful godesses. Chronos was the god of time. According to Greek myth, Zeus killed Chronos with a rib bone. Thus Zeus became the king of the Greek gods. As for the godesses, I know Hera is at the top because she was the queen of the Greek gods. As for the other two, I could be wrong.
It would depend on the Greek, I think. If they were from Athens, I would say Athena was the most important. If they're a fisherman, Poseidon would be most important. All the Greek gods were equally important, but if I had to say which god I considered the most power, I would actually have to say Hades. Considering his domain, he was the most feared by the every day Greek in ancient times. His court decided where your soul went in the after life and he had the Erinyes under his command. He's definitely not someone I'd want to make angry with me.
