My dog died...?
This last year was really hard on my older dog. When I got a new puppy in February I noticed changes very quickly. He wantred to be by himself and away from others. I thought nothing of it but having some peace and quiet.
The last few months I saw drastic changes. He started becoming very aggressive (biting) and was always miserable from the pain in his bones. He would aways be pacing back and forth.
My family tells me it was time for him to go. He is no longer in pain since he has passed. Did I do the right thing by putting him down?
Will the pain I have ever go away?

Yes, its good that you put him to rest. He just wasnt happy anymore, and dont blame yourself! they can just be that way. It was time for him to go, and he went without pain. Im Sorry tho. :'(
It gets better.I lost my dog of 14 in a half years this year to.I never thought I would live through my life without him but I did.I now have another dog.He is his own self .I didn't rush I looked and came home empty handed several times. I found a dog through a rescue and I had to nag these people for him.He looks like the biggest mutt wild animal looking thing but he is great.He will never replace what I had but he sure has made my life better.He is so different from any dog I have had.If you ever get a dog resue one .The dog you lost will not mind you resuing another.It hurts.Do what you need to do for closer like make a shelf that you can go to with your dogs stuff there or something to honor your dog.Spend extra time with the puppy.Your older dog pulled away because they don't feel as good as the puppy and the older dogs don't like there being a chance of being jumped on.I have the new rescue dog here and my husbands older dog her and she pulls away the same .I don't blame her at all she is brittle and this young dog could jump on her .Give yourself time.I still go to my dogs spot and I talk to him .I do it fast or I will cry.I say goodnight every night. It gets allot better.There will be a day when you accept the fact that your baby is in heaven.My problem is it was just not acceptable.If I did it you can.I am crazy with my animals expecially the one I lost.We were together threw my worst times and he is now not here.I do still have days when I am happy but it takes TIME !!!
I don't know if I'm reading this right or not but I think you are saying you got a new puppy and your old dog died soon after. First, I am soooo sorry for your loss. Next, this is hitting close to my own home. I have a Lhasa that I have had for 10 years. This February, we bought a golden retriever. My Lhasa HATES the GR. Within 2 months my Lhasa had to have emergency surgery because of bladder stones. He is very aggressive now, and even bit a little boy in the face a few weeks ago. He is healthy now, but very mean. I think he is depressed to because of the new dog. He never even lets the GR eat or drink. I have to feed the separately.
As far as the pain your dog was having, if he was old, there is no sense in him suffering. Time helps heal the pain that you are feeling. Sorry for your loss.
I used to work as a vet. tech. I stopped because so many put there animals down for no reason, like they weren't sick or in pain. they just didn't want them. Now i have also been around to see when an old pet is down right miserable because of the pain or sickness. I have seen people hold on to them until they die. It was so hard to watch the animal be so miserable and very sickly. I would pray that they would pass during the night so they could be out of the misery because i knew that their owner wouldn't do it for them. So i guess what i am saying is YES you did the right thing. He is so much happier now. He was in a lot of pain with his joints. Please have no regrets he doesn't. He is pleased that he can run around and play again. You did the right thing. I promise the pain will ease up. I have lost and put many of my pets to sleep because they were sick or died of old age. there is no difference with the pain it will subside. It may take a while but you will see. Just try and enjoy your new puppy. Take care
Oh, yes, you did the right thing! Please, please see that. You helped him gently go to the other side where he is happy and healthy again-I firmly believe we will see our pets again there. Years ago we had a Brittany Spaniel. She developed bone cancer. We did everything we could for her, but in the end she started suffering greatly. We couldn't bear to see her go through it any longer, so we had her euthanized. I struggled with that decision for a long time. Our next dog was a Pomeranian. We had her for thirteen years, and she began having congestive heart failure. We couldn't bring ourselves to put her down, and she died on her own, but it was awful to see her go like that. Given the choice again, I think it's best to let a pet go peacefully with no suffering. It's never easy to lose a loved pet no matter what. If it were me, and I had a choice of dying a slow hard death or a quick peaceful one, I would chose the later. You did the right thing, please stop beating yourself up over it. And the pain will go away. Like I've said before, there are no shortcuts around grief. Time will eventually wear away the sharp corners of pain. I wish you all the best.
Yes, it's definitely the right thing. Having a pet who's in so much pain they're no longer able to enjoy the company of his owner is so sad...and when the dog is so miserable that way, the kind thing to do is have him put down.

Oh my gosh I'm sorry! I know when you have a dog they can mean the world to you! Seeing them leave would be like loosing a best friend. But don't worry, you did the right thing. Your dog wasn't feeling well and I know that you would never want to seem him living in pain. Don't worry, he'll alway be with you. And some day, maybe years from now you'll see him again.
Yes,you did the right thing.I had to have my 14 - year - old Aussie/Chow mix,Maura, put down yesterday.She had been suffering from arthritis and kidney failure,and would no longer eat,so I took her and held her in my arms while my vet gave her the shot.She never made a sound,she went so quietly.I know that she is at peace now,and that she has last been reunited with her mother and brothers and sisters,who have all passed before her. So,yes,you did right for your dog by letting him go.And yes,the pain will go away.Of course you will always miss your dog,but you will be happy again.
The pain will get better but just remember all the fun you did have with that dog. Forget about the last months, if you were in pain you wouldn't act the same either. It sounds like you did the right thing. You sure don't want so see or have your dog suffer. I'm sorry for your lose but things will get better.

We said goodbye to Shovelhead over 3 years ago and it still hurts when I think of him. But I remember the good times as well.
