I have regularly had visual disturbances for the past couple of years. Eye doc said inside of my eyes look healthy, so I've suspected this is something neurological or blood-flow related.
I often see whitish swirls in my peripheral vision, blue and pink "blobs" of light, and flickering in peripheral vision. These are the main causes: transitioning from light to dark/vice versa (always when the lights go off when I go to bed) and exercise (frequent swirls and lights while doing push-ups or jogging).
I eat very healthy and exercise regularly. My insurance doesn't offer great coverage and I'm against taking most synthetic medications, so I haven't tried to see any specialist.
I just want to know if these symptoms are putting me at risk for anything. I read about possible stroke risks and getting too much pressure in the eyeballs on a Google search. Is this true?
What can or should I do about my situation?

Hello.Im not sure i can answer too well but i would just like to say that for the last 3 months ive had the same symptoms as you. Flashing lights on going from light to dark and in bed. I also get flashing on waking in the morning. Often i get the flickering throughout the day. My opthamologist told me i had pvd(vitreous detachment). Im 47 Im stiil not convinced and neither is my doc and am very worried. My own doctor told me to lay off the computer for a while. On my own research on talking to some helplines its doubtful it will lead to a stroke as that happens with no warnings at all. I would try not to worry as youve had them for a couple of years. Something more sinister would have shown up by now im sure.Anyway if mine keeps up im going to demand to see a neurologist.Perhaps you could do the same.It might only be stress. Are you prone to stress?Your opthamologist would know if there was pressure on the eyeballs i would think. Anyway just letting you know ive got the same and it is a worry. Please feel free to email me.I would like to know how you get on.Hope ive been some helpThanks
to much pressure in the eyes could be increased brain pressure which crushes your optic nerves and if your eyes are healthy then this is not the case but, this is definitely something wrong with your brain. I also have ocular migraines and have these problems. This might also be visual snow, if you see static or snow, you also see those blobs of light and a whole bunch of other crazy symptoms like that. No, there is nothing to be worried about, doesn't cause blindness or any serious problems. There are no stroke risks and i wouldn't suggest looking things up on google because it is misleading and if you have bad anxiety(which can be a symptom of visual snow btw) then you believe anything you read. In your situation I would suggest you wait it out, If it is manageable to live with if not see an optical neurologist. Ask about imitrex it helps with migraines, i think you will be ok though if it gets worse then i would worry about it
It could be migraine, visual disturbances are typical. Neither does keeping a healthy life style help Exercise for example can provoke a migraine , particulalry if you don't eat properly. You have to work out your triggers. I'd suggest you go and look on a migraine site. They will offer specific symptoms and advice on how to work out your triggers if you suspect migraine.
Migraines can be controlled but not cured. Yes you have a slightly increased risk of stroke especially for women after the menopause if its migraine. However you should get diagnosed properly.
