I bought the cpu yesterday and I am searching how I can overclock. Then I realized the voltage settings with CPU-Z it is 1.608v. Isn`t this too high? I saw some reviews and the normal voltage is between 1.20-1.55 volts. Everything else is fine, Core Speed 3100.00mhz, Multiplier x15.5, Bus Speed 200.00mhz, HT link 2000.00mhz. My motherboard is a ECS GF8200a with Nvidia chipset. Upgrade the latest BIOS. Have Windows Vista SP1.
Since I want to overclock a little can anyone tell me a program to do that or do I have to do it in the BIOS?
Please anyone tell me if the voltage is fine.

Voltages 0.850-1.425V see link below.
that does seem a bit excessive, is it the same motherboard you had previously.. and was it overclocked? maybe you left some setting behind when overclocking previous setup (just a guess!)
the max temps for that cpu are 70c.. id expect it to be around 35-40 on a typical system running with stock fan and heatsink. if your temps are much higher than that you may have a problem.
download the coretemp util in the second link below. it should give you a readout of your cpu. its not totally accurate because of the way phenoms measure temps.. read more on the site.. but enough to get an idea.
if youre lucky, you might be able to install amd overdrive which allows you to overclock on the fly within windows. the bios is the only way todo it though if you ask me :) youll probably have to lower your HT multiplier and your ram ratio in the bios first before overdrive is of any use anyway.
gluck with it
At this factor it isn't relatively going to make a lot of a change. Any Phenom II, Core two Duo, Athlon II, Core two Quad will run video games simply quality. Since you could have an AMD mobo the obivous option here's seen. We're speaking approximately a change of a couple of frames right here and there. Not relatively a lot to flinch approximately whilst video games are already strolling over 60fps do not you suppose?
are you the one who set the voltage to 1.608?
try checking the temperature of the CPU. if it's below 55C, that's very good.
if it's below 50C, that's excellent.
also use prime95 and do a stress test for at least 6 hours and see if there will be any errors.
setting the fsb or multiplier to overclock is best done in the bios...
Phenom ii x2 550
Voltage 0.85V - 1.425V
1.264V is the default setting
