I am close to passing my driving test and will be buying a car afterwards. I plan to buy a Renault Clio and I find the mechanics of a driving a diesel car easier than a petrol for many reasons. The lowest engine of a diesel Clio is 1.5 and a petrol 1.2.
Taking into consideration motor insurance, MOT, tax, servicing and other contributing factors, how much more would I have to spend on a diesel 1.5 Clio than a petrol one? It would be my first year after passing.
Thanks in advance.

Assuming it's a second hand one, a few hundred pounds (if it's a Mk2). The DCi 80 is the pick of the bunch. £35 road tax, 55mpg+ all day long and it's fairly quick with all that low down torque. The 1.2 and 1.4 petrols I would not bother with. Have a look on auto trader. The newest Mk2 DCi 80s will be on '55' plates, or you might get lucky and see a late registered '06' plate. Go for Dynamique spec. Comes with all the toys.
