I am writing a 5-10 page paper about stem cell research and how it could cure diabetics. i picked this topic because both my brothers have type 1 diabetes. I want to know what you think the pros and cons of this would be? thanks!
Update:I was thinking pros would be: cure, new horizons for other stem cells, and less cost for surgury and medical supplys.
Cons= expensive, will not last for ever just for a month or year

Research Paper on Stem cells: A cure for Diabetics?
I am writing a 5-10 page paper about stem cell research and how it could cure diabetics. i picked this topic because both my brothers have type 1 diabetes. I want to know what you think the pros and cons of this would be? thanks!
I have had type 1 diabetes since 1991. I would like to think this would be a good thing, but I have reservations.
Pros -
Of course, if stem cells could cure type 1, I would no longer need injections, blood sugar testing, and would not face the specter of complications.
My financial situation would improve because I would not have the expense of needles, insulin, test strips, and other medications.
I could get life insurance.
I could pay less for medical insurance.
I would not need to measure everything I eat.
I would not need to go to the doctor so often, which not only interrupts work but also costs money.
I may be at less risk for complications during surgery.
Cons -
It may not last permanently.
It may require immunosuppressive drugs, which would expose me to other problems.
Some people will be highly opposed to the treatment on moral grounds, limiting the reach of the treatment.
It may be prohibitively expensive and therefore be irrelevant, especially if insurance companies will not cover it.
It may result in the same frequency of doctor visits to monitor the treatment.
Blood sugar testing may need to continue to monitor treatment.
Supplemental insulin may also be needed if the treatment is not completely effective.
