I have been a Sales Engineer for the past 17 years. Wondering is there an age limit for my chosen career? Will companies impose an age barrier on me? Will they feel that I may not be as agressive as my younger counterparts?

A very interesting question indeed....... But i guess none of us would have a better answer than yourself.
I dont think age is a factor that should determine who can sell better. 17 years... is a lot of experience and that is a plus for any person. And as far as the younger people are concerned as to be more aggressive. I think it should not be directly linked with age but to YOUR COMMITMENT to the job.
May be you are bored with the job that is why you dont feel like to be aggressive. A change / promotion in the job can bring more aggressiveness to your game. So the answer lies with you " WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT?"
No, there is no such thing as age barrier as far as sales line is concern. End of the day, you are judge by the sales you brought in for yr company.
I'm in a similar position. Bring in the business and keep the pipeline filled and you'll be able to retire!
