So I bought a Barber Quarter, because its silver and I like old things. But I guess there are a lot of counterfeit coins, and I bought it on a biding site called Ubid. I can get a refund if I send it back within a certain time period so I need to know how to detect a fake. For a worn down coin how much of a weight difference can I expect? Counterfeits normally dont weigh the same as a brand new coin, or even a worn down coin I believe.
Is there any other way of determining a counterfeit?

I suggest you look on the side or closely on the coin to see for any signs of reproduction.
But I wouldn't mind as long as its silver. If you don't know if it is the weight of a Barber quarter is 6.25 grams, if its of any different weight, it could be counterfeited.
Good luck !
Unless your coin is a rare date and mint mark, the odds are that it isn't counterfeit. If you balanced your coin on your finger tip and tapped it with a pencil, it should ring very clearly. A counterfeit will not have a clear sound if it is lead or a cast copy. This is a simple test and is not 100% accurate. The weight is a more definite test.
