North Carolina Senate Bill 514 or also known as amendment one is an act to amend the Constitution of North Carolina to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.
Voting yes on this means that you do not support same sex marriages, or, same-sex unions and want unions and marriages to be strictly between a man and woman. Voting no means you support the right for a gay or lesbian couple to get married, or, have a same-sex union.
In agreement with MICHAEL R, abolishing the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights would be a very costly blunder. You must be thinking of Proposition 8 in California, this is about same-sex marriage.
If Amendment 1 were gone, it would mean that freedom of the press would be gone and that the government would be allowed to establish a state religion and require everyone to join it.
