for me, it's a toss-up between Ornette Coleman's "Lonely Woman," Charles Mingus' "Fables of Faubus," especially as performed on the 1964 European tour with Eric Dolphy, and John Coltrane's rendition of "My Favorite Things," particularly around '61/'62 when Dolphy (again!) was sitting in with him, playing many, many a memorable flute solo on the tune.
