You are referring to the John 8:58 reference, where Jesus tells the Jews, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I AM".
Now you would also note that the Jews were furious and wanted to stone him. why was this?
Well Jesus was saying something that provoked them.
The term "I AM" is in the Hebrew YHWH (or Yahweh) which is the name ascribed to God.
YHWH means I was, I am, I will be" which essentially suggests the eternal aspect of God.
For Jesus to say, "I AM" was equating himself with God, and the Jews thought this to be blasphemy.
If Jesus was God, he surely would have met Abraham and in fact he would be the creator of the world!
See John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him, without him, nothing was made that has been made."
and Colossians 1:15-16: "He is the image of the invisible God, firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created....all things were created through him and for him.
There appeared in a vision of one like Moses and Abraham.
These were men of covenant. They are major biblical men who God covenanted with. Jesus Christ was prophesized as the new covenant, new testament in Jeremiah.
He is also the Word of God made flesh who dwelt among us.
Jesus Christ being the greatest of these men.
Because the bible says the fullness of the godhead dwelleth in Christ Jesus bodily.

Actually Jesus stated this:
" Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”
(the response) “You are not yet fifty years old,” the Jews said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
