I am considering a design change on a logo and wanted to know what the consesus was from others. Which of the two logo's in this image looks best to you all, the top one or the bottom one?

For anything outdoors the bottom is better. Think of it this way: outdoors we mostly see letterforms in signs unless we're in the city. Anything which detracts from readability is not good. You can get as fancy as you want for print media and bus shelters, but something fancy is citified so that's what people will think of. If you want them to think urban top but that also raises the class issue. The font is very Establishment. If you're thiinking outdoors -- where the font can be appropriate -- bottom.

I prefer the bottom one. For small applications (letterhead and business card) you may need to "beef up" the dropshadows a bit so they don't become fine hairlines that disappear. Seeing a little more thick/thin modulation in the lines that define the mountain might help the logo appear more cohesive instead of looking like a light illustration tacked onto a line of typography. But that's just my graphic design instructor/art director opinion. Nice work!
