I have had my hamster for one week now. Everything has been going great. Tonight I decided to hold it for the first time. I held it a little and then put it in the sink. I went to pick it up again and it flopped over on it's side. One hour later it died. Did I give my hamster a heart attack? I'm in shock....

why did you put it in the sink? for how long? it's possible he gave himself a heart attack by exerting energy to try to climb out. did you have any residual toxic chemicals in the sink? bleach? cleaners? sounds suspicious.
...Why did you stick it in the sink?? There's a possibility that someone had recently cleaned the bathroom, and since cleaning agents are toxic, especially to small animals he may have inhaled/touched/ingested some small amount and was poisoned.
The only other thing that I can think of is he stressed out. From now on though I would suggest not putting any animals anywhere in the bathroom unless you know for a fact that there is nothing toxic (like windex, lysol, clorox, etc.) that has been used- or you have washed it thoroughly with hot water/vinegar. Sorry about your hamster.
I am sorry for you loss. I don't think you gave him a heart attack. First, why did you not hold him sooner? If it died an hour later...my guess is a chemical in the sink. There are deadly cleaning chemcials and also many disgusting things exist in the sink a hamster could've got a hold of. Also, the hamster might have been sick at the pet store and he died now. Sorry, again for losing your hamster.
Please do never attempt to mate a hamster. There are literally tens of millions of undesirable ones accessible interior the worldwide and in simple terms because of the fact somebody thinks that is cool to observe it would not warrant you the appropriate to make a gaggle of animals go through. If that's the only reason your questioning approximately getting them then do not. Your for sure not to blame sufficient to cope with them. As i've got stated till now; hamsters are not toys. they don't seem to be play issues on your leisure. they are animals and deserve an identical appreciate as your cat or dogs and if your keen to reproduce a hamster go forward and breed your cat or dogs. Oh wait; it became in all probability neutered so as that it may not to circumvent a flood of undesirable animals into the worldwide. do never ever ever ever ever attempt to reproduce an animal. you should flow away that to the authorized experts. that is why they are authorized and thanks to this they are experts. because of the fact thay be attentive to a thank you to cope with them and that they are able to looking properties for them till now they have even been born. in case you have not even owned a hamster yet then you definately shouldn't. And if the 1st factor your going to ask is approximately no remember if or not they're going to kill one yet another as quickly as they breed then you definately shouldn't in any respect get one.
I am so sorry. How terrible. Unfortunately, hamsters are delicate things. It could have been one of several things. It could have been sick, old, had a previous injury, you may have held it too tightly, it may have hurt itself in the sink, it might have hurt itself when it fell over. The best you can do, is to just realize, it happened. If you choose to get another, try to be more careful and gentle. Hang in there, it will be ok.
If the sink was wet it died because water causes damage to the hamster. I honestly don't know why that water causes damage to the hamster body. I think that they die because hamsters are about 40% more sencitive than us humans. So if it got wet the littlest bit, even enough that we can't see it, it could die. So sorry for your loss!

was there water in the sink? maybe he drowned.
Sorry, uncalled for. Well, rhodents don't live long. If it was an adult when you got it maybe it was just old and happend to be his time to die. Or yes, maybe you scared it to death. Sorry that is too bad that your hamster died.
did you notice that we were under the rodent category of yahoo answers? hamsters are fragile creatures with very fast heart beats. when you buy them from the pet store, there is really no way of knowing how old the animals is. pet stores routinely sell sickly or elderly rodents because they are cheaper, and die sooner.. therefore you go back and buy a new one
I think your hamster got really stressed out.Or,maybe he picked up some germs from the sink and that made him sick and then he died.Make sure to be careful next time.I feel sorry for you.I'm not trying to insult you.
Was it a miniature hamster? that happend to my brothers hamster a few yrs ago and it was a miniature/dwarf. it was basically shock.
