I just got a 1973 bug and I absolutely love it, but it won't always start when I would like it too. It takes a little bit of tweaking and a good 20 minutes before it will start then, when i turn it off I have to start all over again! It's really irritating and i'm not sure what to do. Any idea what's wrong?
Update:Typically I have to just wait it out or mess with the fuses, but now the fuses won't even work. I just bought it but i assumed the battery was fully charged. Thank you for your help!

You have not described the problem. What happens.. does it turn over.. does it cough.. does it just click. Does it start and die...
really hard to diagnose 'it wont start'
BUT.. if playing with the fuses helps.. check the switch.. see if you are getting current into the swich in the off position and out to the engine and to the starter motor when you turn the key to on and then to start...Wiggling the fuses would correct a power to the switch problem.
It takes roughly nine.five volts to begin a auto. If you pay attention a clicking sound, your battery isn't striking out ample voltage. Your radio, headlights, and many others., will all paintings, so you'll believe that your drawback is your starter. NOT SO. Either you might have a vulnerable battery which want charging, or the definitely perpetrator are your battery cables. Most individuals will seem at their cables and in the event that they LOOK blank, and do not see any white corrosion construct up at the terminals, they feel the battery terminals are creating a well touch. Once once more - NOT SO. Those terminals and cables are lead. Lead is a sparkly steel. Scrap the highest of a battery terminal and it's going to shine. That darkness at the terminal you scraped off could also be reward among you battery terminal and cable, and can avert a well touch. All it demands is to purpose a drop in voltage for your starter and you'll pay attention a clicking sound from the starter. The clicking noise is the solenoid to your starter, so so much individuals feel you want a brand new starter. In my fifty five years of running on vehicles, approximately eighty% of the time the drawback is your battery cables. They might seem blank, nevertheless it does not take a lot to drop the voltage going for your starter, with the intention to additionally purpose the click noise. So earlier than you run out and buy a starter, blank the ones terminals. Get a well battery terminal and cable cleanser at your car constituents retailer. The form with the wires within a good way to rather make the ones terminals and cables shine. Once you might have wiped clean them, your battery will positioned out max voltage. If you continue to pay attention the click sound, take your battery to an car constituents retailer and they're going to determine it. It will not be maintaining a cost or you'll have a useless telephone. However, DO NOT attempt to blank your battery terminals with Baking Soda or Coca Cola. I've labored on vehicles for over fifty five years and all that does is blank the OUTSIDE of the terminals - NOT the relationship among the cable and terminal. So many individuals run out and purchase a brand new starter or battery while it's rather the relationship itself.
