Yes I think you'll become independent and yes I think you're right to be worried. Despite what TMS may say, the levels of prosperity he envisions won't be visible in Scotland for a long time. Even if they do get all the oil, how long's that going to last?
Yesterday’s intervention of PM Cameron and the somewhat anonymous Michael Moore ( Westminster’s “Scottish Secretary “ ) seems to have a triggered a surge in SNP on line membership by 157 in the first 24 hours according to one source ! Not I am sure what they anticipated the reaction of the natives to be ! The would be psephologists amongst the respondents to this question would perhaps be better informed by looking at the last ( 5 December ) poll released by the highly respected Scottish Centre for Social Research rather than our somewhat myopic Press based sources .
“Two thirds of Scots would back independence if they believed it would make them £500 better off, according to the poll. The research centre's annual Scottish Social Attitudes survey also showed growing support for a beefed-up Holyrood with wider powers over domestic policy.Polls expert Professor John Curtice said: "The appetite for a more powerful parliament, including independence, has grown in the past 12 months.”
Assertions that the incumbent Scottish Government has “ not thought things out “ is somewhat ill informed . The last election manifestos for the Westminster Coalition parties carried nary a single mention of the Scottish Referendum ! On the other hand the SNP manifesto not only spelt out when it was to be held ( in the second quarter of the 5 year term ) but also laid out that a proper democratic consultation process would take place with the Scottish people . This is due to be released later this month . In addition to this a white paper for the Bill, setting out four possible options ranging from no change to full Independence, was published on 30 November 2009. A draft bill for public consultation was published on 25 February 2010, setting out a two question yes/no referendum, proposing both further devolution, and full independence. The contribution by the Coalition and prior occupants of Downing Street has been zilch !
The eventual outcome will undoubtedly contain reference to “ devo max “ and the increasing fiscal powers demanded by Holyrood . It must be straight forward democratic choice for a people who have been allowed informed debate .
Yes, it will.
You say that you're Scottish but you then say you don't want independence. I don't understand this. Why would you not want your country to be independent like most of the countries around the world? Do you think that we don't deserve it? Do you think that as a people we're incapabable of making decisions for ourselves?
I'm not going to have a go at you over your view but I do find it sad that there are those who refer to themselves as Scots but who at the same time have no faith or belief in their own country. It is this very lack of self-belief that the unionist doom & gloom scaremongering is going to be targeting and trying to capitalise on. We should have confidence in our country. Scotland could have a lot going for it, a LOT, if only we would have the confidence to let ourselves believe it.
Im Scottish and we will go independent . Shame on you for not having enough faith in your own country to look after itself . If we stay in the so called union things are only going to get worse for Scotland , if we go independent we,re in there with a fighting chance to rise again and be one of the most prosperous nations in Europe ......in the current situation we have no chance.
EDIT: Name one country that can control their crime? Didnt you see the riots all over England last year ? Incidentally they called it "The British riots " when in Scotland and Wales there was no such riots at all ....England cant look after itself , Scotland is more than capable of looking after herself . IN THE WORDS OF MR T "GROW SOME NUTS "
