Hamilton was considered the leader of the original Federalist party. I use the term, "original" because there was to be two Federalist parties. The one formed in the late 1700's would go on to become the Democrat-Republican party. Hamilton supported the Constitution and wanted no changes made to it. The new Federalist wanted to ratify it. Hamilton's Federalist supported a strong national government which endorsed trade with countries like, Great Britain. Where is opposition to that plan were wary of it. One of the opposing views was a fear of becoming a monarchy again.
He was in favour of a strong central bank,a strong central government, and friendship with Brirain (for trading purposes). The new USA had a lot of debts left over from the Revolutionary War,and Hamilton believed all these things were necessary to establish a strong and stable national economy.
I wouldn't criticize him at all - his policies and ideas were sensible and effective.
