long story short, I contacted a chief in the Navy website and and told me it would be difficult to re-enlist as a prior service member from the Navy. He told me I would need to get super scores on the physical screening test. I'm still training and I hope I obtain a contract. I just want to know if the SO rating is currently undermanned or is going to be next year. Army always takes people and they will take me but I would rather go back to the Navy. Thanks for your time.

Nope. Naval Special warfare is not that huge in number. Even with Swcc's, they are under 5000 in number. Nope, Too many folks trying to be SEALs is the problem.
No, infact the Navy is trying to increase the number of SEALs it has.
Getting into the SEAL Teams today is fiercly compedative. There are A LOT of guys out there right now trying to get into the pipeline. Due to how compedative it is, the Navy selects the very best candidates there are.
So yes, you absolutely must be a standout athlete and have the academic marks to boot. You have to score very high on the PST now to even be considered for BUD/S. Just passing the PST with the minimum scores is not enough.
Unless you're a real stand out, I don't believe BUD/S is accepting guys from the regular Navy fleet anymore. Things are changing over there.
OPSEC says nobody will give out that info.
