What are some of the best diets? I love italian food which includes pasta and subs.....so atkins is outta the question. I'm horrible about keeping a schedule for exercise so now I'm trying dieting and hoping it goes over better.

Please don't go for diets, they normally just fail and make you miserable or they will only make you count your calories like mad and a lot of people get eating disorders from them.
BUT, if you want to go on a diet, you're going to have to give things up. It's sad, but it's the truth. If you love pasta and subs so much, you need to have wheat noodles in your pasta and wheat bread on your subs. You can always eat a healthy sub without all of that fatty meat on it, light cheese, chicken/turkey and vegetables is fine.
Like I said, you can still eat your favorite foods but you need to watch how much you eat and what is on them. Eating subs with a bunch of salami, mayonnaise and ham on them isn't gonna help you at all.
Also, some other foods you might think are good but are still healthy:
- Peanut butter
- Nuts
- Watermelon
- Dark chocolate [make sure you check the label and see how much of it is actually made of coco, if it's 70%+ it's fine]
- Chicken
- Turkey
- Fish
- Shrimp
- Stir fry
