I have a zinc-carbon battery that I took apart. A paste of Ammonium Chloride and Zinc Chloride is in the middle. I wish to seperate these compounds, could anyone provide a valid solution for doing this? Thank you.

According to Wikipedia zinc chloride is extremely soluble in alcohol 4300g/l whereas ammonium chloride is only soluble to 6g/l
So fractional crytallisation from alcohol may be the way forward.
Another possiblity would be to heat the mixture. The ammonium chloride will decompose to ammonia and Hydrogen chloride but will reform on cooling.
