I have been doing crunches and sit ups following a d.v.d the past few days. People have been saying doing them dont slim your belly and all this, is this true? If so could you please tell me as it is a waste of my time doing them.
Thankyou.

They strengthen and tone your tummy muscles. But if you really want to slim down, just do 45 mins of cardio a day. Doesn't have to be a full sprint run, just a slow jog. But that doesn't mean you have to stop doing crunches and sit ups too.
If you are doing enough of them then of course it will help slim you belly. Also you need to control your calorie intake. Are you just trying to tighten your abs or are you trying to lose weight as well? If you are trying to lose weight too i suggest doing some other cardio workout such as running, a tae bo type work out aerobics or anything that really makes you sweat and work hard. Do this in addition to your crunches and results should be much more visible. Also I suggest another type of workout for your abs. Lay flat on your back. Keep your legs straight and lift them 6 inches off the ground and count to 10. Drop them to the floor and count to 5. Then raise them again and count to 10 again. Do as many as you can handle. Sounds easy but it is actually very hard for most people. This will work the lower part of you abs thats sit ups and crunches dont.
Don't do crunches/sit ups to slim your belly. You would be far better going running or cycling or taking up a fairly physically active sport. Crunches/ sit ups are to tone up your belly after it has become slim. :) Happy slimming
well if you want to get rid of the fat on your belly
then doing them is wasteing your time
the only thing you are mangeing to do is make your belly seem bigger
because your abs will start to form under the fat
so you should run around the block or swim
anything that will help burn the fat off
I would say, it helps, but it's not the solution.
Crunches and sit ups help strengthen core muscles, not trim fat. Overall full body workouts (such as back squats) and intense interval cardio (such as stair sprinting) burns off fat that would expose abs better. But if you don't strengthen your abs and burn off fat, you'll end up with a flat stomach with no abs.
Of course they dont.. You cant spot reduce fat. What you are doing is making the abdominal muscles stronger. Its still the most important part of your body to work on, but they arent going to make you lose belly fat if thats what you are going for.
no...sorry to say it doesn't. All it does is help tone your abs for that firmness. But it will not burn the fat, you will have to do aerobic exercises to get it off. Like running. Good luck (:
