I don't see many GUYS wearing them, but I think they are very comfortable and convenient - so why isn't everyone wearing them?

Yeah, as a guy, I could see you easily being teased over them. I'm not saying it's fair, but I think we both know how people can be. They aren't made for men because men's shoes usually don't have a shape that requires socks cut that way. Women's flats and such sort of require socks cut that low. Unfortunately, men's loafers worn so you can't see the socks hasn't been popular since Miami Vice was. Maybe if they come back into style, you could wear them without anyone saying anything (so long as you routinely wore loafers).
You might want to try different kinds of socks. Perhaps socks that are a little looser in the ankle would work better for you. Also, try socks made from different fabrics. Perhaps what actually makes the most difference isn't the cut, but the fact that women's socks (except athletic socks) tend to be made of different material than men's socks. Men's dress socks might be a good place for you to start, and I'm jealous, because it's really hard to find women's argyle socks. :)
