I don't normally do Favorites but, judging from your status, you're probably not asking for someone to tell you that Ave Maria is indeed his most 'awesome' song :-)
So, for the fun of it, here's my very own, subjective list of Schubert favorites:
- Fantasia in F minor, D. 940 (Op. posth. 103), for piano four-hands
He wrote some lovely symphonies, but I'm a big fan of his lieder. Besides the already mentioned "Erlkoenig", here are some of my other favorites (and it's hard to choose!). In no particular order:
His setting of Mueller's poem cycle "Winterreise" is terribly heart wrenching, especially when performed in its entirety. While searching for a link for you, I came across this version on Youtube that makes a sort of music video/movie out of it...looks to be interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLsaSm5iG9o
Enjoy! And don't cry too hard...if you need to know what he's going on there's a synopsis on the wiki page below.

1. Gretchen Am Spinnrade
2. Du Bist du Ruh
3. Nacht und Traume
4. Die Forelle
5. Auf dem Wasser du singen
6. Standchen (Leise flehen meine lieder)
7. Der Tod und das Madchen
8. An die Musik
9 .An Silvia
10. Ave Maria

Ah! One of my friends sang "Das Erlkoenig" for vocal state, and it's awesome!
