Fedor does his crunches in a rapid fashion. Is this better for fighting? Or will doing crunches slowly work the same muscles? i know for pushups, that you do ballistic pushups for explosive arm strength. Will doing crunches fast help strengthen the hip muscles?

Crunches really are only for cardio. They don't work well for strengthening the abs or hips because they do not get enough extension to involve the necessary muscles, but that doesn't mean doing them is not useful.
