I can't decide between these 2 guitars. I am currently borrowing a gibson les paul and love the tone... but i would really like a whammy bar on it, preferably one that doesnt go out of tune. Please help me decide between these 2 guitars.

Update:I do like the tone of a Gibson, but i also like the "punch" of a Fender. And yes it is a "floating bridge" on the Fender. I'm playing my brothers $200 Fender and actually like it better than the Gibson, despite the huge price difference.

Apples to Oranges. I'm a Fender man myself. Both are tremendous guitars. But if you don't see a distinct difference in the sound of these two, you need to listen a little longer before you buy one of them. If you like the sound of the Gibson, you are not going to get it out of the Strat. So that should answer your question for you. Whammy bars are what they are. They go out of tune. You have to deal with that. Get the Paul and figure it out as you go.
I know what you're thinking -- whammy bar.. oh yeahhhhhh divebombs.... I was thinking the same thing when I got my guitar. There are a few things to consider though - is the whammy bar a floating whammy bar? meaning that it can be pulled UP as well as pushed DOWN (basically tightening and loosening the strings to raise and lower pitch) or is it the classic depression only style? locking tremolo doesn't neccesarily mean that your guitar won't go out of tune it just means that the tremolo locks in place. If it were me honestly I probably would get a les paul studio and just buy a digitech whammy foot pedal. It really depends on your personal preference though.
I own several Fender's and Gibson's, but yeah I'm a Fender guy also. I think the Strat is much more comfortable to play and has far more diverse tone than the LP. I love the HSS Strat and if you upgrade that bridge humbucker to a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates it will sound incredible. Not that it won't sound good as is, but the Pearly Gates is simply awesome.
The both sound awesome
